Menstrual cup guide

by Rosie Cups (2017-04-26)

We’re committed to publishing unbiased guides that clearly detail our decision-making criteria to our readers, but we just want you to know. Rating this particular period cup sample is troublesome since it’s not an intact sample. In general you are choosing two things, the width of the cup so that it will open wide enough and form a circular suction in your vaginal canal, and the length — these two things vary with each cup. The more I used it, the more flexible and soft it became. For shorter statured people, sometimes they have a shorter canal and the Diva Cup is too long. but I’ll do my best where I can.

You can do it whenever you want.  But I personally think it is best to do this in baby steps too.  Master insertion, removal, and popping open BEFORE your period starts. Thank you.

So I pushed my fears aside, and went for it. Our policy is to return or donate products after we’re finished working with them. It fit snugly and I was surprised at how I could barely feel it inside me. There are some helpful guides that list out the sizes of the cups and their lengths (I linked to them at the bottom of the post), but those only really help if you have an understanding of your vaginal canal. But it was nothing I couldn’t handle. So much of the cup is missing, it not only doesn’t fold properly, but it probably wouldn’t keep the suction enough to see if it works at all. For more on our ethics, ideas and how we work, read this. We obtain the products we review through a mixture of buying our own and working with companies to borrow review units.   That way, when you get your period, all you have to do is see if you got the seal right.

The Ruby Cup, medical-grade based menstrual cup is available in only a single size that can suit all women, and possesses a grooved, hollow stem. I have the model 1 because I bought it before I was 30 and it still fits well. You may have to buy more than one if the first is just not forming a good suction, but I promise it’s a good investment to figure it out! I would never go back. I love my Diva Cup and they tell you that if you’ve had a child or are over 30 you need the model 2 (which is a bit bigger circumference). :)

So as a result of the cut, I can’t really test it properly. They have a LOT of great info. Find an error?: Also, If you notice a guide that needs a little freshening up, or has errors, please tweet us at @homesweethome or email us at and we'll fix it. The Ruby Cup can be reused time and time again for up to 10 years.

How we work We help support the hundreds of hours that go into our evaluations through affiliate commissions on purchases made through our links. It was a little hard to fold and maneuver at first, and when released inside it did have a little snap to it to get in place. Petite friends have reported that they prefer the Lunette. Then go read on some of those forums for more tips on selecting the right brand and size. It was adjusting to me as I was adjusting to it. Think of your relationship with tampons as a guide (can you use them, can you take a super, etc). I put it inside and trimmed the stem to fit me. Here's how to support our writers and our work.
